Siblings Through Adoption
Our family was made up of pieces that came together in an unusual way. My brother had been adopted before us. His biological parents were young and not able to raise him, so he joined the family first. When my sister and I arrived, the three of us became siblings through adoption rather than biology, but it still made us a family.
My sister and I had already formed a connection back in Korea. I had comforted her in the orphanage, fed her when I could, and held her when she cried. That early bond followed us into our new life. We shared the same beginning, and we went through the same major changes together, which created a natural link between us.
My brother had his own journey and his own challenges, and we all learned how to grow up together in a multicultural adoptive household. Our family looked different from the families around us, but we made it work in our own way. It wasn’t perfect, but it was ours, and it shaped each of us into who we are today.
